The Conscious Table

A Virtual Dinner Bookclub

is coming...

soon

Some recipes were never written down. Some stories got carried in the hands of women who never thought to call themselves keepers of anything. They were just cooking.

This is where we find them again.

Once a month a small group of us gathers online, each at our own table with something we've made, reading the same book and talking about what we've inherited and what we're still trying to hold onto.

The conversation always goes longer than planned, because nobody wants to leave. It's a beautiful thing.

At a Glance

  • A small group.

  • A narrative cookbook.

  • A veganized recipe developed by Christina to cook and bring to the table.

  • Reflection questions.

  • A 90 minute virtual gathering.

The kind of women who show up with their whole selves.

That's The Conscious Table.

Where we've been

The Conscious Table started in the spring of 2026. Three months, three books, a small group of women who showed up every time.

We read The Blue Zones Solution by Dan Buettner and ended up talking less about food and more about the grandmothers who held everything together. We read Braiding Sweetgrass by Robin Wall Kimmerer and talked about plants as relatives and what the earth gives us and what we owe back. We closed with Like Water for Chocolate by Laura Esquivel and talked about the roles placed on women without their consent and the power that lived in their kitchens anyway.

Women left those gatherings feeling grateful and centered. Stories of grandmothers came out. Someone said she didn't know how to recreate her grandmother's dish and probably never would. That landed hard in the room.

The founding cohort is complete.

What comes next goes deeper.

What's coming this fall

In September The Conscious Table returns with three narrative cookbooks written by women whose food crossed oceans and fed families through things that don't have easy names. Books about immigration, inheritance, and the recipes that almost didn't make it.

Each month I'll develop a veganized recipe from the book and send it to you before we gather. You cook it and bring it to the table. The meal is always part of it.

This cohort is small on purpose. Registration opens this fall.

What happened in the room

Women left feeling grateful and centered. There were stories about grandmothers. There were recipes mourned. There was a recognition that women have always been the ones keeping the table whether anyone called it that or not.

About Christina

IMG_0796.jpeg

I'm Christina Gdisis, founder of Conscious Vegan Kitchen. I grew up at a Greek table - first generation American, my family from Central Greece and the island of Chios. My grandmother Yiayia Giannoula cooked from whatever the season gave her, every single day, without a recipe in sight. She never thought of herself as preserving anything. She was simply cooking. But what she was doing was keeping something alive that I'm still trying to hold onto.

The Conscious Table is my attempt to build a space where women can do that together.
