Where Radical Love Reigns Supreme: A Letter from Christina

There is a purple candle next to the painting and it has floral wax in the shape of marigolds. A succulent plant stands in front of the painting.

Dearest Community,

October unfurled as a kaleidoscope of experiences, bringing with it the unpredictable energy of the season. Amidst a whirlwind of a cooking class and preparing nourishing meals for two heartfelt yoga retreats, I found myself embarking on a soul-stirring journey to Mexico City alongside my partner and cherished sister-friend. Our purpose was to partake in the transcendent tradition of Día de Los Muertos – the Day of the Dead. Far from a time of mourning, this hallowed celebration calls on the spirits of our departed loved ones to reunite with the living, fostering a palpable sense of unity that stretches beyond the veil.

My extensive travels have taken me to myriad corners of the globe, yet somehow Mexico's embrace had eluded me until now. When I arrived, I was captivated by the vibrant culture, the intricate tapestry of flavors, and, above all, the warmth of the Mexican people. Their boundless generosity of spirit, their devotion to family, and their deep-rooted indigenous traditions serve as a beacon of inspiration and enlightenment for us all.

Although we are fortunate enough to find Mexico's rich culinary heritage woven into the very fabric of our own communities here in the U.S., nothing compares to the transcendent experience of being wholly immersed in the beating heart of Mexico itself. The streets danced with affection as besitos exchanged between lovers hung in the air. Señoras meticulously crafted tortillas by hand, enveloping the senses in the divine aroma of tacos and quesadillas, while abuelitas walked along with their grandchildren, painting an idyllic portrait of family that graced every corner. The passionate mixologists, with their wit and unrivaled wisdom, shared the tale of the native agave plant, offering a fascinating glimpse into the history and geography that bring us the revered tequila and mezcal.

Returning home, I found myself consumed by deep reflection on the systemic narratives that have vilified this remarkable country and its people. As we navigate these turbulent times, I am reminded of the transformative power of love and empathy in the face of fear. Conscious Vegan Kitchen is dedicated to fostering a space of understanding, compassion, and unity, rooted in the pillars of radical love - free of discrimination, racism, and ignorance.

It is my deepest hope that we can come together to learn, communicate, and unify towards progress, with open hearts and minds. For those who feel called to join us on this journey, we welcome you with open arms. And for those who may be uncertain, I encourage you to stay, to engage in dialogue, and to explore the possibility of a world where radical love reigns supreme.

Be gentle with yourselves, my friends, and know that we are here to hold space for each other.

In loving solidarity,

Christina
